The Vancouver Canucks and New York Rangers will always be linked together because of a memorable Stanley Cup Final back in 1994, but could the two teams become trade partners in the coming weeks.
Reports earlier this week suggest that the Vancouver Canucks turned down a 1-for-1 trade offer from the New York Rangers involving J.T. Miller and Mika Zibanejad, but it's possible that both teams come back to the table to work something out before the deadline in early March.
J.T. Miller's name has been swirling in trade rumors for quite some time now and that doesn't surprise anyone, espcailly after Elliotte Friedman revealed Elliotte Friedman revealed last Saturday that the Vancouver Canucks are exploring the market for both him and Swedish forward Elias Pettersson.
If the New York Rangers were to continue their pursuit of J.T. Miller in the weeks ahead, what could a potential deal between the two teams look like? Well, Thomas Drance and Arthur Staple of The Athletic decided to share their proposals for a trade between Patrik Allvin and Chris Drury.
As one would expect, Drance and Staple's proposals center around J.T. Miller on the Vancouver Canucks side of things.
Drance's proposal would see the Vancouver Canucks acquire forward Filip Chytil, defenseman Braden Schneider, prospect Brennan Othmann and a 2025 third-round pick in exchange for J.T. Miller and Nils Hoglander.
Meanwhile, Arthur Staple's proposal involved less pieces, but better quality in terms of the return for the Vancouver Canucks.
The Vancouver Canucks would add Mika Zibanejad and 2020 first-overall pick Alexis Lafreniere, while the New York Rangers would add J.T. Miller, along with Conor Garland, who has one year remaining on his contract following the 2024-25 season.
Giving up a player like J.T. Miller is never easy, especially when considering what he's done on and off the ice in Vancouver since joining the team, but both proposals from The Athletic are quite intriguing and it'll be interesting to see what Patrik Allvin decides to do in the coming weeks.
