The Vancouver Canucks and Seattle Kraken have recently announced a multi-year agreement that the club says will help enhance the development of their players.

For over a decade now, the Vancouver Canucks have been hosting teams in the Young Stars Classic, a rookie tournament which usually featured four franchises and took place just before the start of training camp in September.

This season's Young Stars Classic once again took place in Penticton, British Columbia, with fans packing into the South Okanagan Events Centre to watch the future stars of the Vancouver Canucks, Edmonton Oilers, Calgary Flames and Winnipeg Jets.

However, the 2024 Young Stars Classic will be the last one hosted by the Vancouver Canucksas the team announced the cancelation of the tournament earlier this week.

Vancouver Canucks enter into multi-year agreement with Seattle Kraken for Prospect Showcase

With the Young Stars Classic gone the way of the dodo, Vancouver Canucks fans will still have an opportunity to watch the team's prospects in action every fall in a new format.

On Tuesday, the Canucks announced that they've reached a multi-year agreement with the Seattle Kraken for a 'Prospect Showcase' in September and will feature a two-game series between the best prospects each organization has.

The 2025 Prospect Showcase will take place in Seattle before shifting to Abbotsford, British Columbia for 2026.

Vancouver Canucks President of Hockey Operations Jim Rutherford commented on the agreement with Seattle where he said while there's still an opportunity to have the Young Stars Classic return some day, they wanted to give their prospects the best competitive opportunities each fall.

Rutherford believes that the two-game prospect series with the Kraken will help enhance the development of those in the Vancouver Canucks system.

"The Vancouver Canucks organization would like to sincerely thank the city of Penticton for the incredible job of supporting and hosting the Young Stars Tournament," Rutherford said. "The staff at the Okanagan Events Centre, the fans who attended the games, and the local hockey community all contributed to the great success of these events. Unfortunately, we were unable to secure commitments from the other teams for next fall, so regrettably, we will not be hosting a Penticton Young Stars Tournament in 2025. The organization will explore other opportunities with the city and has not closed the door on participating in a Young Stars tournament in future years. Next September, we are excited to go to Seattle and start this series with the Kraken. We feel providing these types of competitive opportunities will only enhance the development of our players."

Dates for the two-game series in September, along with ticket details, have yet to be released, but look for more information on that at some point during the summer.
