The Vancouver Canucks are set to head into training camp without their star goaltender Thatcher Demko, as he's still recovering from knee injuries he suffered late in the regular season and then again in the first game of the Stanley Cup Playoffs against the Nashville Predators.
While Thatcher Demko is reportedly back skating and working out on the ice this week, it sounds like he may not be ready for opening night next month.
During Friday's edition of the 32 Thoughts podcast, Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman shared an update on Thatcher Demko, saying that he doesn't know that he'll be good to go for October 9th against the Calgary Flames, but the Canucks don't believe he'll be out long-term.
If Thatcher Demko isn't able to suit up for opening night against the Calgary Flames, then the starting reigns will likely be handed to Arturs Silovs, as was the case during the Stanley Cup Playoffs, until the San Diego native returns to full health.
It'll be interesting to see between now and the opening of training camp on September 19th, if Patrik Allvin decides to sign another goaltender, as they've been rumoured to be looking at the market. In recent weeks, the Canucks have been linked to Kevin Lankinen and Antti Raanta.
The Vancouver Canucks will return to action later this month, with their preseason opener set for Tuesday, September 24th against their Pacific Northwest rivals, the Seattle Kraken.
