As the Vancouver Canucks continue their road trip on the east coast, they've decided to make a roster move between the pipes which will benefit the the team in a big way.

Last week, Vancouver Canucks fans were worried after seeing star goaltender Thatcher Demko leave their game against the Seattle Kraken with an injury, which later turned out just to be back spasms, according to head coach Rick Tocchet.

While Demko's absence wasn't expected to be very long, General Manager Patrik Allvin had to call up Latvian netminder Arturs Silovs on an emergency basis to serve as Kevin Lankinen's backup.

After a week on the sidelines, it appears that Thatcher Demko is good to go once again and Vancouver Canucks fans can breathe a sigh of relief.

Vancouver Canucks Assign Arturs Silovs to the AHL's Abbotsford Canucks

In a social media post this morning, the Vancouver Canucks announced that they've sent Arturs Silovs back to the American Hockey League's Abbotsford Canucks after his week-long stint in the NHL.

"General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today that G Arturs Silovs has been reassigned to Abbotsford (AHL)." the team said.

The move to assign Arturs Silovs to the American Hockey League signals that Thatcher Demko is ready to return in time for tomorrow's game against the Carolina Hurricanes, however it's unclear if he'll get the start or if he'll be the backup to Kevin Lankinen.

Silovs, 23, began the 2024-25 season on the NHL roster due to Thatcher Demko recovering from a knee injury he sustained during the Stanley Cup Playoffs last spring.

The Riga native has appeared in just seven games for the Canucks this season where he has a 1-4-1 record along with a 4.11 goals against average and an .847 save percentage.

With the strong play of Kevin Lankinen this season, Silovs will now head to Abbotsford where he should get starts on a regular basis as he looks to build towards being Vancouver's full-time backup for the 2025-26 season.
