Vancouver Canucks forward Jake DeBrusk shares disappointment in not getting the victory on opening night for J.T. Miller after an incredible night for the veteran.

Despite the tough 6-5 overtime loss on Wednesday night to the Calgary Flames, one player stood out above the rest for the Vancouver Canucks and that was J.T. Miller.

In the first period, Miller laid a big hit on Kevin Rooney and later on in the frame, dropped the mitts with Anthony Mantha of the Calgary Flames. Not only did J.T. Miller hold his own in the tilt, he took down the 6-foot-5 forward and landed several strong punches throughout.

Flash forward to the third period and the Canucks find themselves down 5-4 after the Flames scored four unanswered goals. With the Canucks net empty, J.T. Miller took charge with the extra man on the ice for Vancouver, tying up the game with a perfect slapshot which found the top corner past Flames netminder Dan Vladar.

The game would then go to overtime where the Flames would unfortunately find the back of the net, with 2020 first-rounder Connor Zary burying the winner for Calgary to take the two points.

When meeting with the media after making his official Vancouver Canucks debut, Jake DeBrusk was pretty disappointed that the team was unable to pull out the win for J.T. Miller after his incredible effort all night.

DeBrusk added, "He gave it everything he had tonight and, myself included, [we] need to be more like him that way."

While the collapse and allowing the Flames to score four unanswered goals is obviously disappointing for the team, it's a new day and it was only the first of 82 games on the schedule. Everyone knows what this team is capable of and they'll use their opening night loss as a valuable lesson going forward.
