The Vancouver Canucks have announced a roster move on Thursday afternoon regarding prospect Arshdeep Bains.
Less than 24 hours after their opening night loss to the Calgary Flames, the Vancouver Canucks have announced a call-up to their roster from the American Hockey League's Abbotsford Canucks.
In a social media post on Thursday, the Vancouver Canucks shared that prospect Arshdeep Bains is on his way to the National Hockey League and will join the team ahead of Friday's game against the Philadelphia Flyers.
Bains, 23, got his first taste of the National Hockey League last season,
making his NHL debut with the Vancouver Canucks in February. He went on to appear in eight games with Vancouver during the remainder of the season, but failed to register any points.
Last season, Bains was one of the team's best prospects down in the American Hockey League, putting up 55 points (16 goals, 39 assists), 28 penalty minutes and was a plus-18 in 59 games.
The Surrey, British Columbia native came into training camp looking to make a strong impression and that's exactly what he did right from the start. Bains remainder with the Canucks all the way through camp and was one of the final cuts before they submitting their opening night roster to the National Hockey League.
We'll have to wait and see what Rick Tocchet decides to do with his roster on Friday night, but we should get a more clear picture at the morning skate tomorrow. It wouldn't be a shock to see Arshdeep Bains play in his first game of the season tomorrow and he'll provide the team with some depth as they head out on a four-game road trip, which kicks off Tuesday in Tampa Bay.
