Following the announcement of his seven-year, $38.5 million deal with the Canucks, Jake DeBrusk met with the media and took a little bit of a shot at the teams who opted not to sign him on Monday, saying that he's glad to be with a winning team in Vancouver.
Joining a team that has a solid chance at winning is exactly what Jake DeBrusk will be doing in Vancouver. DeBrusk will have the opportunity to join a top-six forward group featuring Elias Pettersson, J.T. Miller and Brock Boeser, along with likely Nils Hoglander and Danton Heinen to start the 2024-25 campaign.
In Boston, DeBrusk had a bit of success, reaching the Stanley Cup Final in 2019, but following the retirements of Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci in 2023, the Bruins weren't able to get back the eventual Stanley Cup champions int eh second round as their lack of forward depth got exposed by a strong Panthers team.
The Edmonton, Alberta native set a career-high in goals (27) and points (50) two seasons ago in 2022-23 and could surpass both of those marks next year playing on either Elias Pettersson or J.T. Miller's wing. DeBrusk will be a solid addition to Rick Tocchet's group and gives them plenty of versatility as he can play up and down the lineup and on both the powerplay and penalty killing units.
