Filip Hronek is in the midst of a career season, with 45 points in just 66 games, already surpassing his previous high of 39 set in 2022-23. He only suited up in four games for the Canucks last season, making this is his first entire season in a Canucks uniform.

The Czech defender currently commands $4.4 million annually and will become an RFA on July 1st of this year. Given his highly productive season, leading all Canucks defensemen other than Quinn Hughes in scoring, he is due for a significant raise.

However, with the Canucks having a large amount of money committed to Elias Pettersson, Quinn Hughes, Brock Boeser, and J.T. Miller (to name a few), there is a chance he may prove to be too expensive for the team. Reports suggest the team would like to extend Hronek for under $7 million annually, or perhaps trickle into the $7.1-7.2 million range, but want to avoid paying him a Hughes-like salary (an average of $7.85 million annually).

Multiple sources have suggested that Hronek would be worth, and even asking, for Sergachev like money. With a cap hit of around $8.5M, the Canucks have made it clear they weren't going there.

Hronek averages nearly 24 minutes of ice time per game and almost two minutes on the power play. His plus-34 rating ranks third in the NHL behind Hughes and Panthers defenseman Gustav Forsling.
