LATEST | The verdict is in regarding Jake Guentzel and the Canucks
We know that Jim Rutherford tends to be a heavy spender when he believes he has a team that could be going all the way. The Canucks have already made critical additions to their line-up since the season started, Casey DeSmith, Nikita Zadorov and most recently Elias Lindholm.
As we get closer to the trade deadline, the market is about to heat big time, and even though they've already acquired one of the top assets on the market in Lindholm, the Canucks are still in the middle of everything.
THE VERDICT IS IN REGARDING GUENTZEL IN THE CANUCKS
It was believed that the Canucks would be pursuing one of Lindholm or Guentzel, but the latest report from the NHL insiders has suggested that the Canucks were still very much involved in the
Jake Guentzel conversations.
During Saturday Headliners on Hockey Night in Canada, Elliotte Friedman confirmed that the Canucks were still looking at the possibility of adding the scoring winger.
The Penguins are nowhere near where they hoped to be after acquiring
Erik Karlsson during the offseason. With Guentzel possibly hitting free agency this summer, they've been evaluating the possibility of cashing in on his value.
OBVIOUS LINK BETWEEN THE CANUCKS AND GUENTZEL?
An obvious connection is drawn between Guentzel and the Canucks. The Rutherford and Allvin regime had lots to do with Guentzel's success back in Pittsburgh, and when asked about him, Tocchet gave the winger lots of praises:
''Tocchet talking about how Guentzel is a big-time pressure player and has scored some BIG goals for the Pens in the playoffs in the past 6-7 years.''
Guentzel is currently sidelined with an injury, but before his injury came up, the forward had managed 22 goals and 52 points through his first 50 games.
