LATEST | The verdict is in regarding Nils Hoglander and his place on the trade market
Nils Hoglander has possibly been the Canucks biggest riser this season. Before he was even given a proper opportunity on the team's top six alongside Elias Pettersson, he was one of the league's biggest offensive threats at five-on-five.
As highlighted by the stats sheets released earlier, Hoglander features 9th in the league for his 19 goals scored at even strength. His name featured alongside some of the league's best goalscorers, such as
Auston Matthews,
Zach Hyman and
Nathan MacKinnon.
The Canucks have been actively working the phones to try and acquire another forward who could join Tocchet's offence, and the question has often been as to whether or not, Hoglander should be considered a trade asset. With how he's progressed since he went down to Abbotsford last year, it's clear that the team will be asking for him.
Satiar Shah delivered the Canucks' thoughts on this case while on Canucks Central earlier and revealed that Hoglander wasn't untouchable. Still, the Canucks weren't open to the idea of trading him:
Sat doesn't think Hoglander is an untouchable, but they are reluctant to trade him.
The Canucks signed the young Swede to a 2-year deal over the summer worth $2.2M, Hoglander is meant to be the most cost-efficient contract on the Canucks' roster over that span, and so far, he's been up to the task. With 19 goals and 27 points through 61 games this season, he could reach the 25-goal mark for the first time in his career without having consistent power-play opportunities.
The next few days will be highly determinant to the young man's future. The strong bond that has grown between him and Pettersson shouldn't be something the Canucks try and meddle with, but only the future will tell.
