National Hockey League Officially Reveals Vancouver Canucks' Quarter Century Teams
The National Hockey League revealed the Quarter Century Teams for the Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday morning.
Back in December, the National Hockey League announced that they would be unveiling Quarter Century Teams for all 32 of its franchises, as well as the Arizona Coyotes.
Each franchise will have a first and second Quarter Century Team which will feature six forwards, four defensemen and two goaltenders who have made a big impact on their respective clubs between 2000 and 2025.
Vancouver Canucks Quarter Century Teams revealed by the NHL
Ahead of tonight's game against the Buffalo Sabres, the National Hockey League revealed the Quarter Century Teams for the Vancouver Canucks and there aren't many surprises on either team.
Vancouver's first team features Henrik Sedin, Daniel Sedin and Markus Naslund on forward; Quinn Hughes and Alexander Edler on defense, with Roberto Luongo between the pipes.
"Luongo, who arrived in a trade with the Florida Panthers on June 23, 2006, has the most wins (252), and shutouts (38) in Canucks history, and his 448 games played since the turn of the century leads Vancouver goalies. He played eight seasons with the Canucks and helped them reach the Stanley Cup Final in 2011. Luongo and Cory Schneider shared the William M. Jennings Trophy in 2010-11 when Vancouver allowed the fewest goals (185) in the League." the NHL said following Roberto Luongo's inclusion on the first team. As for Vancouver's second team, Ryan Kesler, J.T. Miller and Elias Pettersson are the three forwards, Kevin Bieksa and Mattias Ohlund are on the blue line, while Thatcher Demko gets the nod in net.
"Ohlund was chosen by the Canucks in the first round (No. 13) of the 1994 NHL Draft and played 11 seasons with Vancouver, nine of them coming this century. During that time he had 260 points (77 goals, 183 assists) in 619 games, third among Vancouver defensemen. His best offensive season was in 2001-02 with 36 points (10 goals, 26 assists) in 81 games." The NHL said about Mattias Ohlund.
While everyone named by the NHL today is more than worthy of being on the Canucks' Quarter Century Teams, there are a few players that come to mind as potential snubs.
Former captain Bo Horvat, forward Brock Boeser and defenseman Sami Salo are three players that could've easily been named to the Quarter Century Team on Tuesday.
Perhaps Brock Boeser will use his omission as fuel during tonight's game against the Buffalo Sabres, which is set to get underway at 7 pm PT on Sportsnet Pacific.
