Vancouver Canucks GM Patrik Allvin met with the media on Monday and spoke about Elias Pettersson's struggles this season and his path to becoming an NHL Star.

With the Vancouver Canucks just over halfway through their 2024-25 campaign, General Manager Patrik Allvin met with reporters yesterday for his midseason media availability where a number of topics were discussed including trade rumors involving his players.

The most notable names on the Vancouver Canucks who have been mentioned in rumors are J.T. Miller and Elias Pettersson, both of whom the team has reportedly been exploring the market for as of earlier this month.

While a J.T. Miller trade is far more likely than an Elias Pettersson one at this point, that won't stop the rumors at all regarding the Swedish forward, despite the fact that he expressed to management his desire to remain a Vancouver Canuck.

Patrik Allvin says Elias Pettersson is still in the process of being an NHL star

Two seasons ago, Elias Pettersson showed the National Hockey League what he was capable of, putting up 102 points and following that up with 89 points in 2023-24.

However with his subpar play this season, combined with the fact that his $11.6 million AAV contract kicked in, he's drawn plenty of criticism from the fans and the media in Vancouver.

When meeting with reporters on Monday, Allvin was asked about the Swedish forward and his slow season thus far.

Allvin told reporters that Pettersson takes ownership for how he's played this season and that he's still in the process of becoming a star in the National Hockey League, which takes time and that he's not a finished product yet.

"He takes ownership. It's a process for him to become a star player in the league. The work that he's putting in, it's not a finished product yet. [We are] definitely seeing signs after his injury here that he's playing a solid two-way hockey game, pushing the pace harder, and he will continue to work on his game. And for me, [it's] more about the process and playing the right way. And when you do so, the points will come." Allvin said.

In 39 games this season, the Sundsvall, Sweden native has registered 29 points (ten goals, 19 assists), 12 penalty minutes and is a minus-five in 39 games.

There's still plenty of time for Elias Pettersson to pick up the pace this season, but it's very unlikely that he'll hit the point-per-game mark and for someone making $11.6 million per season, that's extremely disappointing.
