There have been a number of big trades throughout the most recent NHL offseason, and teams around the league are hoping they can be as impactful as the one that brought the Roberto Luongo to the Vancouver Canucks.
The league shared an article on Tuesday discussing some newsworthy moves that have been around the NHL this summer, including Patrik Laine to the Montreal Canadiens, a big time prospect swap between the Jets and Penguins, and the 1 for 1 deal that sees Pierre-Luc Dubois on his third team in as many years.
In a twitter thread, the NHL discussed the impact these moves can have on NHL franchises, and brought attention to one that turned into a huge victory for the Vancouver Canucks.
The thread highlights Luongo helping the Canucks to a Stanley Cup Finals appearance in 2011, two separate 40 win seasons, and eventually being named captain of the Canucks - a truly rare honour for a goaltender.
Luongo is the franchise leader in wins, and is second place in playoff victories, and will certainly go down as one of the best offseason acquisitions of all time.
Teams who made trades this summer will hope they have the same outcome.
