NHL issues a statement on Zadorov: Could tie franchise greats
They say the real players show up when the stakes are at their highest, and we're starting to see Nikita Zadorov's true colours. The Canucks acquired him from the Flames earlier in the season, and the further the team gets into the playoffs, the better he is.
Zadorov has developed the ability to score when the Canucks need it the most, and in the team's first two meetings of the second round, he managed goals in both outings. Adding that to the two goals he scored in the first round, he now leads the league in Defenseman scoring.
Nikita Zadorov leads all defensemen with four goals in the 2024 #StanleyCup Playoffs and will look to extend his goal streak to three games tonight. #NHLStats
If Zadorov does indeed add another goal to his actual goal streak, he'll be joining some of the franchise's best playoffs performing Defenseman in Kevin Bieksa and Ed Jovanovski:
Nikita Zadorov can become the third defenseman in Canucks history to post a three-game goal streak in the playoffs, following Ed Jovanovski 4 GP in 2003) and Kevin Bieksa (3 GP in 2011).
Through 75 regular season games, Zadorov tallied up 20 points, and through 8 playoff games, the big Z already has 7 points. Zadorov is now preparing to hit free agency, with the way he's been handling himself in during the spring dance, it would be in the team's best interest to lock him up.
