The Canucks General Manager talked to the media after a spirited day where loads of money was spent. Allvin first addressed the team's biggest acquisition, Jake Debrusk. The GM talked about how he made sense for the team and what he saw in his game the he believed would help the Canucks in the long-run:
Everybody knew the Canucks were out on a shopping spree to land a winger to play by Elias Pettersson's side and Patrik Allvin confirmed that Debrusk was the man for the job. The Canucks GM confirmed that the team planned on playing Debrusk on Petey's wing:
A gritty winger, that knows how to score goals, he could very well be the perfect complement to Elias Pettersson's game. Debrusk answered the call when placed in situations to score with three high scoring seasons during which he had 25, 27 and 27 tallies.
Matched to Elias Pettersson's playmaking abilities, Debrusk could very much unlock his next level, much like J.T. Miller when he first got to Vancouver. Some players rise when given the opportunity, given bigger roles they often thrive, do you believe the Canucks may have that with Jake Debrusk?
While the Canucks did take an important risk in signing him for the seven years, with an AAV of $5.5M, if he ends up scoring 25 goals or even more, he could be this year's free agency steal.
