The biggest and most distracting narrative that has hovered over the Vancouver Canucks this season is the drama between stars J.T. Miller and Elias Pettersson, and Rick Tocchet and Quinn Highes have had enough with all the speculation.

It could not have been easy in the last couple weeks since J.T. Miller returned from his leave of absence.

Putting aside the issues between them, both Miller and Pettersson have struggled to get anything going offensively.

The pair even refuse to play with one another, even if it could benefit the team.

Since Miller's return, both forwards have struggled to produce. Miller registered three assists through his first two games but has since gone pointless over his previous three games, with a minus-two rating. Pettersson has yet to register a point and has a minus-four rating during the five-game stint. - Tyson Cole

As the Vancouver Canucks are set to face off against the Ottawa Senators tonight, Rick Tocchet and Quinn Hughes finally comment on the issues surrounding the team biggest offensive stars, and the basically confirm the bad news.

Vancouver Canucks Head Coach Rick Tocchet Confirm Rift Between Elias Pettersson and J.T. Miller

It was clear that Rick Tocchet was sick of the media speculating, and when he spoke to the media today after morning skate, he did not deny the issues Pettersson and Miller are having. He basically even confirmed it.

«Listen, it's all about the crest. As long as I coach, it's all about the crest. It's not about what's on the back. You're going to have arguments; you're going to have fights. I've been fortunate to be [in] the Stanley Cup [finals] three times, two as a coach, one as a player. There's always been something that has galvanized a team. Whether people are bickering or complaining, it happens all the time."

He went on to address that a relationship can just be professional, that you do not need to be best friends with someone to fight for a common goal.

«It's my job to make sure that, you know, guys have a voice and you move on from certain stuff. But, you also need to be mature, too. You don't have to play PlayStation together or go to dinner together, but [if] it's your turn to go to the net, go to the net. It's really what it comes down to."

Canucks Captain Quinn Hughes also met with the media to give his opinion on the rift between his two star centres.

«Yeah I mean, I think that it's been a lot of learning for everybody in here. Obviously, not to beat around the bush, everybody knows what the reports are out there, but I think that everyone expects a lot from each other. There's times I get upset with Millsy; there's times I get upset with Petey; there's times I get upset with Hronek. That doesn't mean I don't love those guys and vice versa. I'm going to make some bad plays; they're going to make a play where I wish they saw me here or saw me there, but over the course of playing together for six years, I think those things are normal; they're going to happen.

At the end of the day, both Rick Tocchet and Quinn Hughes did the right thing by addressing this uncomfortable situation head on.

Even though they confirmed bad news between the pair of centers, its better to cut the speculation and move on by trying to work it out.
