Rick Dhaliwal updates on Martin Necas and his next contract
One of the top young guns in the league, Martin Necas, has reportedly announced that he will not be re-signing with the Hurricanes because he wants a more prominent role with the team.
In the Hurricanes' 1st Round Draft Selection in 2017, Necas broke out quite a bit over the last season, collecting over 20 goals in both years and 71 and 53 points, respectively. The word going around is that the Czech would be on the market for a new deal and a new team, and apparently, the Canucks have been inquiring.
Rick Dhaliwal updated on Necas' potential deal if it were decided to go to arbitration, and it might even be enough to scare some teams. According to his intel, he could be commanding as much over $8M per year if he agreed to a long-term deal:
Dhaliwal on Necas:
''He has a good arb case. He will not be cheap on a long-term deal...This is a player who I think can command over 8 mill per year on a long-term deal.''
Necas is skilled, fast, extremely dangerous offensively and has a knack for scoring goals. He's precisely what the Canucks would want in a top-six forward, but can they afford another $8M forward? Given that they have Elias Lindholm, who's about to go free, provided that they will have to re-sign Filip Hronek or whoever replaces him?
With the current status of the Canucks' contracts, their current contender state, this is bound to be one of most exciting off-season in Canucks history. Will Allvin find a way to manage through the salary cap, re-sign the players he wants back and improve his current roster along the way?
