Vancouver Canucks Put A Stop to Quinn Hughes Joining Team USA
tomorrow night and today, GM Bill Guerin gave an update on Quinn Hughes' availability.
Bill Guerin shares update on Quinn Hughes' status for tomorrow's game
Despite
Charlie McAvoy's injury, Team USA isn't allowed to add Quinn Hughes to their roster because they still have six healthy defensemen, but the Americans are still waiting to see if the league will make an exception.
But, it now no longer matters as NHL Insider Pierre LeBrun announced that Quinn Hughes will not be able to play in the finals for USA after not being cleared medically.
Team USA has been informed Quinn Hughes is not travelling here to Boston to join the team. Wasn't medically cleared.
Sounds like Team USA looking at bringing in a couple of other players just as insurance, because of illness going around.
Team USA General Manager Bill Guerin told reporters on Wednesday that they're still hoping to get Quinn Hughes to fly to Boston to meet them ahead of the final.
"Team USA GM Bill Guerin tells me they're still working through the Quinn Hughes situation and are still trying to bring him to Boston. He'll skate again with the Canucks today." Michael Russo of The Athletic said on X.
Chris Johnston of TSN confirmed that the United States are still working through the process with the league on Quinn Hughes, adding that he's been skating the entire break and the Americans want the best options available to them before tomorrow's game.
"Here's where things stand on Quinn Hughes: Team USA is still working through the process of trying to bring him to Boston for the #4Nations championship.
Hughes has been skating during the break and the U.S. wants all of the best available options." Johnston said.
While the final call will come from the National Hockey League before tomorrow's game between the two nations, Pierre LeBrun is reporting that Team Canada has no issues with Quinn Hughes being added to the United States' roster.
"Team Canada has no issue with Quinn Hughes joining Team USA but the NHL again today says it's status quo as far as Hughes not being able to play unless there's an injury/illness to another Team USA D." LeBrun said.
The 4 Nations Face-Off
between Canada and the United States at TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts is set for tomorrow at 5 pm PT (8 pm local) and can be viewed across the country on Sportsnet.
