It is another sad day for the NHL and hockey community as one of the most recognizable and legendary voices in Rangers history Al Trautwig has sadly passed away at the age of 68.
It seems that the hockey community is losing many influential and impactful people this year and we have lost another one today in Former New York Knicks and New York Rangers broadcaster Al Trautwig.
Al Trautwig passes away at the age of 68
The sad announcement comes only 2 days before his 69th birthday where the MSG Networks successor Alan Hahn offered a touching tribute on X.
Longtime NHL and Rangers broadcaster Al Trautwig has passed away at 68 years old ❤️
"I'm sad to share the news that we lost a legendary voice in sports. But we lost a lot more than that," Hahn said. "He was not only a friend, but a mentor and a teacher. He was, personally, one of my biggest resources of support when I moved into this career. Rest in peace, Al Trautwig."
It was a known fact that Trautwig was in a hard battle with Cancer since 2024.
A 2024 Newsday article by Neil Best wrote that Trautwig was said to have been undergoing treatment for cancer as he continued to continuing to teach at Long Island-based Adelphi University in his hometown.
