The team's GM is in the process of shrinking the roster, and after sending 17 players to the AHL or their respective junior teams, Allvin has now sent two players down the waiver wire.
Elliotte Friedman just broke the news that Patrik Allvin had placed Jett Woo and Guillaume Brisebois on waivers for assignment. They'll be reporting to the Abbotsford Canucks where they'll most likely have a spot.
It's a tough break for Guillaume Brisebois, whose conditioning and play level weren't there. The former third-round pick got injured in pre-season last season, at which point his spot with the club was confirmed. Brisebois' injury kept him out of the game for most of the season; he could only compete in eight games, during which he couldn't get on the score sheet. Thus far, the number 55 has played in 27 NHL games and 249 AHL games, all in the Canucks' organization.
Following last year's training camp, everybody agreed that Jett Woo was the next man up to the NHL. The sequence of events led to two NHL call-ups for the youngster, but he never got a chance actually to play. The Canucks chose to send him through waivers, hoping that he'll head to Abbotsford. Right-handed shot defenceman with experience at the NHL level as a former second-round pick, it wouldn't be a shock to anyone if he ended up being claimed. Once viewed as a blue-chip two-way prospect, there's still hope for the 24 year old, but maybe not in Vancouver.
