Vancouver Canucks GM Patrik Allvin Officially Taking Trade Calls for Forward Elias Pettersson
Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin won't rule out the possibility of trading Swedish forward Elias Pettersson in the coming months.
The Vancouver Canucks have plenty of work to do this summer if they want to turn things around and return to the Stanley Cup Playoffs and there's a few areas of their roster they need to address including the need for a second line centerman.
Right now, the team will head into the 2025-26 campaign with Elias Pettersson and
Filip Chytil as their 1C and 2C, respectively,
but there's always a chance that could change and potentially, their Swedish star could find himself in a new home before puck drop in October.
Patrik Allvin doesn't rule out potential for Elias Pettersson trade this summer
On Monday, Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin and President of Hockey Operations Jim Rutherford met with reporters for their season-ending media availability where they took a look back and reflected on the 2024-25 campaign and it not being the outcome anyone wanted.
During the press conference, Patrik Allvin was asked about Elias Pettersson, who struggled for the majority of the season before registering ten points in 11 games last month and then suffered an injury on March 22nd which ended his season.
Allvin told the media that couldn't give them 100 percent confirmation that he wouldn't trade Elias Pettersson over the summer, adding that he has to keep his options open.
"I would be stupid not to keep my options open." Allvin said according to Daily Hive's Noah Strang.
Patrik Allvin's comments shouldn't come as a shock to anyone today as he isn't going to show his hand publicly whether or not he wants to keep Elias Pettersson, especially since there's always the chance he could get an offer he can't refuse.
Pettersson's name was in the rumor mill for a good chunk of the season and more fuel was added to the fire in early January as
Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reported that the team was exploring the market for him and
J.T. Miller, the latter of whom was moved to the New York Rangers.
As mentioned, if the Vancouver Canucks are to trade Elias Pettersson over the summer, it's going to have to be for a package they can't refuse and it's unclear what that could look like or any deal for the Swedish forward for that matter as his value probably isn't too high at the moment.
