Vancouver Canucks Announce Starting Goalie for Important Matchup Against the Florida Panthers
As the Vancouver Canucks are set to take on the reining Stanly Cup Champion Florida Panthers this evening, scenes from morning skate announce who the starting goalie will be.
With Thatcher Demko returning and being finally healthy, the Vancouver Canucks now have a bonified elite goalie tandem, a strategy that has become so popular in the modern NHL.
When it was announced by head coach Rick Tocchet that Thatcher Demko would be getting his first start since game #1 of last seasons playoffs against the St. Louis Blues fans were beside themselves with excitement.
Unfortunately, the first start for Demko did not go as planned, saving only 21 out of 24 shots faced in the 4-2 overtime loss.
"Yeah, I mean, felt rusty for sure," Demko said. "Obviously, it's frustrating losing. I thought I could have played a couple of goals differently. I'm sure that there's stuff that I can pull to keep building. But obviously it's frustrating right now."
He added, "There's a couple of things I thought that I can clean up that shouldn't take too much time. Just different reads and different ideas, positionally, things like that. I'm frustrated losing the game. I want to make a couple of those saves."
Kevin Lankinen Named Starting Goalie for Game Against the Florida Panthers
It is no major surprise that the first game back for Thatcher Demko was a little rusty, it is to be expected, but the good news for the Canucks is that all season long they have received phenomenal performances from netminder Kevin Lankinen.
As it was seen at morning skate today, Kevin Lankinen was the first goalie to take the ice, and also exit, which has been a trend all season long to indicate that he will be in-between the pipes for their matchup with the defending Stanly Cup Champs.
It has been a rough season at home, but the Canucks look to get back in the win column tonight as they have dropped their last two games to the St. Louis Blues and the Columbus Blue Jackets.
