The Vancouver Canucks have had some interesting characters play for them throughout their history and some great personalities too including Kevin Bieksa and Ryan Kesler.

Bieksa and Kesler were teammates in Vancouver for nine seasons, as well as three more seasons in Anaheim, so it's safe to say they're pretty good buddies.

During a recent appearance on the Empty Netters podcast, Kevin Bieksa shared a pretty wild story which featured Ryan Kesler throwing a steak knife at the team's rookie party during the 2013-14 season.

Kevin Bieksa shares hilarious story from Vancouver Canucks' rookie party

During the 2013-14 season, with Eddie Lack in his first year, the team held their rookie party which saw players in their first NHL season go up and make a joke.

For Eddie Lack's joke, he was helped by Kevin Bieksa who told him to say something about Ryan Kesler.

Kesler wasn't too happy with Eddie Lack's joke and threw a steak knife at him and also dumped a glass of wine on his head.

Bieksa says that after that Roberto Luongo spoke up, with Kesler throwing something again, hitting the netminder's shoulder and joking that it was his first save he's made in months.

Eddie [Lack]'s glove came off in warm-up. While he was skating out of the net when his glove came off, he had a bare hand. And guys were flying around in warm up, and they were shooting pucks in the empty net. He kind of reached his hand out, just as a joke, to save a puck, and [Ryan Kesler] shot a puck at his hand, and I think broke his finger.

Fast forward to the rookie party: you know how we make the rookies go up and do a joke? Most teams do that. And Eddie goes up to do a joke, and I maybe prompted him and told him something to say about Kes and Kesler did not like it. I think he threw a steak knife at him, and then he came up and dumped his glass of wine on him.

And then I remember Luongo said something, and [Kesler] threw something at Luongo and hits him in the shoulder. And Luongo was like, 'What are you doing?', and [Kesler] goes, 'That's the first save you've made in two months.'

So Kesler's on the war path that night, and Eddie was the one who got him going." Bieksa said.

The 2013-14 season ended up being a pretty tough one for the Vancouver Canucks as they finished fifth in the Pacific Divison and missed the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time since 2007-08.
