Vancouver Canucks GM Throws Head Coach Rick Tocchet Under the Bus in Shocking Interview
In a recent interview with Sportsnet that has taken the hockey community and the Vancouver fans by storm, Patrik Allvin reveals his true colors towards head coach Rick Tocchet and his ability to lead the team.
When Patrik Allvin decided to do an exclusive 1 on 1 interview with Sportsnet's Iain MacIntyre, no one expected the revealing nature of his comments towards many of the players and head coach Rick Tocchet.
Allvin basically threw Rick Tocchet and the teams best players under the bus clear as day, insinuating that leadership is lacking and that the Canucks are lacking an identity, and that without a proper culture established, there can be no long-term success.
"Our identity has been very vague this (season). It hasn't been a clear path. If you don't have that, success is not sustainable long term. So what I would say is, I would like to see us playing our style and brand of hockey on a more consistent basis. I don't like to drive to the game and I don't know what I'm going to get. We need to play a certain way every night to be successful, and when we do, we're a good team. I would like to see us find our identity and consistency more. And then everything else will take care of itself." - Allvin
He did go on to say that he Think Rick Tocchet is a very good coach, that players seem to learn from him and respond well to him. But, the reality is that the team is no performing up to a well enough standard, and that it is the job of Tocchet to figure out how to get them to play with more consistency.
"I think it goes hand in hand with the players, right? I believe that Rick is a great coach and a great communicator. And I believe that the players have responded really well. But again, I think his job - and I know that he's working on it every day - is to find solutions to be more consistent. It's tough. . . if your home record isn't better." - Allvin
With all that is going on right now with the Vancouver Canucks, transparency is needed, but for the general manager of the team to call out basically everyone out, it does not signal good times ahead.
Rick Tocchet can only do so much to make players be better, but the nature of the NHL is that when things start going south, the coach is used as the scapegoat to mark change.
