Vancouver Canucks goaltender Thatcher Demko discussed his return from injury on Monday night following the team's shootout win over the New Jersey Devils.

The Vancouver Canucks got a big boost on Monday as Thatcher Demko made his return to the crease after a little over six weeks on the sidelines due to a lower-body injury he sustained against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
In those six weeks without Thatcher Demko, the Vancouver Canucks bounced in and out of a wild card spot in the Western Conference and with his return, the team hopes he'll play a key role in helping them put an X beside their name in the standings, signifying a berth in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Thatcher Demko discusses return from lower-body injury

Thatcher Demko got the start yesterday on Amazon Prime Monday Night Hockey against the New Jersey Devils, with Kevin Lankinen in the press box due to an illness and rookie Arturs Silovs serving as the backup.
Demko made 22 saves on 25 shots, helping the Canucks pick up a big two points in the standings thanks to a 4-3 shootout win.
After the game, Demko met with reporters where he discussed his return from injury at the most important time in the Vancouver Canucks' season.
"You want to come in and contribute. I was talking to Iain yesterday, the guys have been doing so well and competing every night. You certainly don't want to come in an contribute the wrong way, so it was a huge fight for us, coming down to the last minute there and getting the extra point. Again, just super proud of the team." Demko said.

It's been a tough 12 months for Thatcher Demko on the injury front after suffering two knee issues late in the 2023-24 regular season and early in the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs, which didn't allow him to make his 2024-25 debut until December 10th.
With the win last night, Demko's record this season now sits at 7-6-3 in 18 games with a 2.87 goals against average, an .890 save percentage and one shutout.
The San Diego, California native is going to be relied on heavily in the remaining 11 games of Vancouver's regular season schedule as the team continues their push towards a second straight appearance in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
