Saturday's action saw a number of Vancouver Canucks prospects hit the ice all over North America and Europe, but it was Tim Willander who caught everyone's attention again.
On Saturday night, Tom Willander's Boston University were on the road in Grand Forks as they faced off against the University of North Dakota. Boston University was looking to bounce back after being blown out by the University of North Dakota on Friday night by a score of 7-2, which gave Willander's squad their first loss of the 2024-25 season.
With under four minutes to play in the third period and on the powerplay, Tom Willander found himself alone at the top of the zone with plenty of time and space. The Canucks prospect then stepped in and fired a wrister through traffic, finding the back of the net to give Boston University a 4-2 lead.
The University of North Dakota would go on add a third goal, but it wasn't enough as Willander's marker stood as the game-winner, with Boston University moving to 4-1-0 on the season with a 4-3 victory.
This wasn't the first time Tom Willander came up clutch for Boston Univerity this season as back on October 18th against UConn, he scored a late insurance goal to give the Terriers their third win of the season.
It's been a strong season for the Stockholm, Sweden native as he's registered five points (two goals, three assists), two penalty minutes and is a plus-four in five games in 2024-25. Willander and Boston University will be back in action next weekend with a pair of home games against the University of Michigan.
If Willander is able to sustain this level of play throughout the entire 2024-25 season, which wouldn't shock anyone, there's a good chance he could turn pro later in the year and sign his entry-level contract with the Vancouver Canucks. Boston University's final game of the regular season is set for March 8th against Vermont, however if they make it all the way to the Frozen Four, the latest they could finish is April 12th. Vancouver has a pair of regular season games after April 12th - April 14th vs San Jose & April 16th vs Vegas, which, if he signs, could mean Canucks fans would have an opportunity to see Tom Willander make his NHL debut. But it's still early and we'll have to wait and see how things play out over the coming months.
