Vancouver Mayor refuses outdoor Canucks viewings: Reveals why
The Vancouver Canucks notably had no outdoor viewing party following their Game 1 victory in the opening round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs against the Nashville Predators. This marked the first Vancouver home playoff game in nine years. Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim explained his reasoning for not allowing such events.

The city of Vancouver has had a history of outdoor watch parties with incidents relating to their 1994 and 2011 Stanley Cup Final appearances. Many fans surely remember the 2011 riots across the city following their 4-0 loss at the hands of the Boston Bruins in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals.
Conversely, Port Coquitlam, BC, mayor Brad West was very much in favour of an outdoor watch party to support the team during their highly-anticipated playoff appearance.
I hope we get to do this a bunch as the Canucks go further we are going to ramp this up bigger and bigger.

At least someone is in favour of an outdoor viewing party in support of the Canucks as they look to make a deep playoff run.
