"We need to add a couple of players" - Jim Rutherford Doesn't Think the Vancouver Canucks Are Contenders Yet
We're just over 35% of the way through the Vancouver Canucks' season and it's been quite an up-and-down campaign to say the least and some additions need to be made.
As we slowly approach the National Hockey League's trade deadline in March, there's no doubt that the Vancouver Canucks are going to be aggressive looking to make upgrades in order to help them take that next step forward and hopefully, contend for the Stanley Cup in June.
Jim Rutherford admits additions need to be made to Vancouver Canucks' roster
Following Vancouver's 5-1 loss to the Boston Bruins on Saturday night at Rogers Arena, Canucks President of Hockey Operations Jim Rutherford was a guest on 'After Hours' with Scott Oake and Ray Ferraro.
During his appearance, Jim Rutherford discussed the current state of the Vancouver Canucks including where they're at in the National Hockey League standings and their record at Rogers Arena.
Rutherford said that if the Vancouver Canucks are going to contend for the Stanley Cup this season, they'll need to make some additions to the roster before the NHL's trade deadline on Friday, March 7th.
"We need to add a couple of players to really give ourselves a chance to contend." Rutherford said.
The Hall of Fame executive
also shared that with the way the Vancouver Canucks have played so far this season on home ice, they can't be a playoff team.
"You can't be a playoff team with the record we have at home." Rutherford said.
So far this season, the Vancouver Canucks have the sixth-worst record at home, sitting at 5-7-4 while at Rogers Arena.
There's no quick fix for the inconsistency the Vancouver Canucks have had this season, but in the coming weeks, Patrik Allvin and the management staff will start taking a harder look at where this team needs an upgrade, one of those being a top-four defenseman.
