Zadorov opens up on his departure from the Canucks: Take a shot at the Canucks
Nikita Zadorov joined the Canucks midway through the season, but he quickly became an essential fixture of the team's blueline. Disagreements eventually led to his departure from the Canucks; we now know more about the reason why.
In a recent interview, Zadorov revealed he never intended to leave the Canucks. The two parties were not able to find a financial match:
"We disagreed on the details before the playoffs and postponed the negotiations," Zadorov said. "After the playoffs, when I was in Vancouver, we tried to reach an agreement, but unfortunately, it didn't work."
Later in the article, the big Russian defenceman revealed why he felt like the Bruins were the best match for himself and his family, taking a subtle shot at the Canucks and the Avalanche along the way.
"The Bruins were the best option, both in terms of hockey, which is always a priority, and family," he explained. Despite offers from other teams, including the Vancouver Canucks and Colorado Avalanche, Zadorov chose Boston for its winning potential."Money is great, but I want to win,"
In the end, whether it was to win or not, Big Z did take the offer that paid him the most.
The 29-year-old defenseman played 642 games with five different teams during his career. He sought a longer-term contract, but Vancouver was unwilling to meet his demands. The Bruins, however, openly acknowledged that they overpaid to secure Zadorov, valuing him at $5 million for six seasons.
Zadorov had been a physical force and a capable puck mover for the Canucks during the season and their playoff run, which garnered significant interest from other teams. In 13 playoff games, Zadorov stood out as a physical leader, contributing four goals and eight points.
The Boston Bruins, known for their consistent performance despite the retirement of star players, continue to make bold moves, such as signing Zadorov and Lindholm. With these additions to a team that has already achieved over 100 regular season points, the Bruins are poised to be strong contenders for the Cup next season.
