The trade market is set to heat up in the next couple of weeks as we approach the trade deadline on March 3rd.

The Canucks have already revealed that they were looking for a young right-handed d-man to add to their core and Seravalli made an intriguing revelation earlier today stating that the Sharks had just made Ryan Merkley available.

Merkley is the former 21st overall pick from the 2018 draft, he is known to be:

«Dynamic skating off. Dman excels on rush & on PP. Top-end puck skills.»
-- ISS Hockey, 2017

He stands at 6'0'' and 185 pounds. He's only taken parts in 39 games in his career so far, in which he's recorded 6 points, 14 PIM, and a -10 rating. Since his pro career started he spent most of his time in the AHL where he's had 44 points in 92 games.

Merkley is well-known for his skating ability, has good size, and excellent puck skills. He had a standout junior career where he registered 269 points in 248 games. Is potential is definitely intriguing and since he's asked to be traded his value will be on the low side.

Knowing that the Canucks need help on the right side, should they consider adding Merkley to their defensive core?
