For Hronek's services and a 4th Round in 2023, Patrik Allvin sent the Islanders' Top12 protected pick in 2023 (the one they acquired for Horvat) and the team's 2nd Round Selection in 2023. The matter's been discussed on Sekeres and Price and an extremely intriguing remark was made.
The Islanders protected their 2023 Draft from the Top12 and if they were to choose to draft in 2023, the Canucks would be getting an unprotected 2024 1st Rounder. Though the Canucks offered this pick without any protection and that's where it could be catastrophic. As stated in the above video, the Canucks could have potentially held a top end pick if the Islanders were to fall out of luck next year. Which is a very similar situation to what the Panthers are facing with the Canadiens after the Ben Chiarot trade at last year's deadline:
Hronek currently plays the second year of a 3-year deal worth $13.6M and will be a RFA as soon as July 1st 2025. He is a very capable two-way defenseman, but for Allvin and the Canucks' sake, let's hope the Islanders don't fall behind too much for both this year and next year in order to avoid a catastrophy.
