Coaching Change: Done deal and the timeline is revealed as well
The Canucks have lost their 4th game in a row, on their current road trip and the talks surrounding Bruce Boudreau's job have heated up quite a bit.
The rumor first stipulated that the change would be happening after the All-Star break and that the preferred candidate by Rutherford and Allvin was none other than Rick Tocchet.
Darren Dreger was on TSN 1200 and stated that a coaching change was going to happen:
"I think they're going to make a coaching change, I'm hedging a little bit, probably in the next 4 to 6 weeks."
Friedman completed the information on his 32 thoughts podcast. When he stated that Rick Tocchet was going to be named head coach of the Vancouver Canucks at some point. Tocchet is currently employed by TNT and has to give a four weeks notice which would conveniently fit in right after the All-Star weekend, which is set to take place in Florida on February's first weekend.
Patrick Johnston noted in his recent article in The Province, that both Rutherford and Aquillini took a trip to Vegas. City in which Tocchet lives.
"As previously reported by Postmedia, sources spotted president of hockey operations Jim Rutherford in Las Vegas about 10 days ago. It's now understood he was there with team owner Francesco Aquilini. Tocchet, notably, lives in Las Vegas."
The Canucks had previously engaged with Tocchet when they failed to register a win in their first seven games of the season, but things had cooled down when the team showed some level of promise. Will a new coach change the team's pace? Tocchet was known for his defensive strategies and through his time with the Coyotes, a certain Conor Garland showed lots of improvement and had 39 points in 49 games in the 2020-2021 season. Will he be able to build new foundations within the current team's core? Or do they need to sell everything and start over?
