Another road game, another first minute penalty & another opening goal surrendered. It didn't come a man down, but it did hand an immediate momentum swing the way of the hometown Bruins.
Following that initial PowerPlay with a Connor Clifton goal to open the scoring with help from Taylor Hall & Hampus Lindholm, the B's led at 7:17 of the opening frame & never looked back. The shot came off a play around the right boards, with Oliver Ekman-Larsson causing a screen with Jake Debrusk.
After the teams traded goals the Canucks left the first period with a 2-1 deficit.
Oddly it felt more probable for a Vancouver win at 2-1 down than it would 3-0 up, what a strange universe we are living in.
That was short lived as after 40 minutes many of the same habits had the Canucks down 4-1, finally succumbing to the Bruins in a 5-2 game. The Canucks didn't play terrible the entire game, in fact 5 on 5 the game was competitive, but giving up a pair on the PP will cost you 2 points most nights, even when your own PowerPlay cashes twice.
They were good 5 on 5, they didn't score though.
Thatcher Demko was less than ok, allowing 4 goals on 31 shots, not helping his save percentage by any stretch of the imagination, and on the 'like to have it back' list you can put a 2 down.
The defense, led my 'Tyler Minors' made it look easy to be so bad, even Quinn Hughes got in on the action playing a puck with a 'mini stick' after breaking his composite in half & using the bottom end to make a pass.
It looked like Mini Sticks, check it out for yourself.
Unforced errors are the soup of the day. Everyday.
Now we get to the hard part of the equation, what is the answer & when does the theme music finally turn off?
I'll say this much, it seems all 3 rings are full right now, with the circus operating at full capacity. There's only one ring this team should be chasing, maybe the problem is not one person on the ice knows what it takes to get one.
