Insider brings up a safety rule change that would basically end fighting in the NHL
The National Hockey League has taken lots of step over the last years, in order to increase the player's safety. Now an insider has speculated on a possible change that would forever alter the game.
However, in this case, if what Jeff Marek speculates is true then players, coaches, executives and fans may have something to say.
Marek recently stated that he believes the NHL could force players to wear full face shield, in order to lower facial injuries.
If you follow any level of hockey through the last few years, you're fully aware that the highest level of play where full face shields are mandatory in Canada are in some tier two junior A leagues. Though for most players that make it to the NHL, the last level where they wear full face shields is in triple A.
Implementing a full face protection would definitely decrease if not completely erase the fights from the games. Though I still have a hard time the players would agree to that.
Could this mark the debut of an era? Much like when the league made the helmet mandatory?
