LATEST | Capitals hire former BCHL and Maple Leafs Coach
The Washington Capitals made the news official on Tuesday morning, announcing the hiring of Spencer Carbery as their new head coach.
Carbery, 41, now becomes the 12th British Columbia native to be named a head coach in the National Hockey League after spending the previous two seasons as an assistant coach with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The Victoria native is no stranger to the Washington Capitals organization. Prior to joining the Maple Leafs, Carbery was the head coach of Washington's American Hockey League affiliate, the Hershey Bears and was named Coach of the Year in his final season with the team.
During his playing days, Carbery spent two seasons in the British Columbia Hockey League with the Cowichan Valley Capitals and the Penticton Panthers.
