LATEST | Official Statement from the NHL regarding Quinn Hughes
The Canucks were once again led to victory by the trio made of J.T. Miller, Elias Pettersson, and Quinn Hughes. The latter has been excellent throughout the whole season and his progression lets us believe that he'll grow into a possible Norris contender in years to come.
Today, Hughes registered yet again 2 assists bringing his season total to 60 in back-to-back seasons. The NHL acknowledge the young man and his accomplishment, noting along the way that his name was now amongst the game's very best:
''Quinn Hughes recorded 60 assists for the second straight season and became the second skater in @Canucks history to hit the mark multiple times, joining Henrik Sedin (6x).''
He joins Paul Coffey and Raymond Bourque, two of the game's greatest offensive defensemen as the last blueliners to reach the 60 assists mark in 2 straight seasons. The way it's trending, there's nothing indicating that he won't be reaching that mark again next season.
In his post-game interview, Rick Tocchet only had great words for his number one defenseman:
''I think he's been a terrific leader he's been one of our best when it comes to being vocal and I haven't really seen a bad game out of him, he's very consistent''
Hughes has yet to enter his prime and is already considered among some of the league's top defensemen. The fact that he's already matured enough to show lots of consistency in his game speaks a great deal about the franchise's next step. It had been discussed that Pettersson was the only untouchable on the Canucks' roster, should they be adding Hughes' name too?
