The Vancouver Canucks are looking at their options heading into the trade deadline. They already made the biggest trade in the NHL this season sending their captain to the New York Islanders for Anthony Beauvillier, prospect Aatu Raty, and a top-12 protected first-round pick. The Canucks though are still not done.
Luke Schenn another Canuck that's been gathering lots of attention and could fetch the Canucks a nice return. The 33-year-old stay-at-home defenceman is the perfect addition to a playoff team. At this point, it is believed that only two teams remain in the running to acquire Schenn's services: the Calgary Flames and the Boston Bruins.
Though, the Canucks have not waited decided if they wanted to part ways with Luke Schenn and a recent report from Sportsnet's Insider Elliotte Friedman states the following:
"There's been a push from some in the Canucks organization to keep Schenn. I think it depends on what's offered. If Vancouver deems it too low, they won't move. But there's plenty of interest, which generally pushes up the price.
- Elliotte Friedman
If the Canucks indeed move Schenn, The Boston Bruins are sitting on top of the NHL mountain right now being the number one team in the NHL. While the Calgary Flames are in the midst of a playoff battle alongside the Edmonton Oilers.
Both these teams have strong defensive cores and either would greatly benefit from adding the two-time Stanley Cup champion. Schenn is known to be a culture guy around the locker room, meaning that he sets the pace and sets a great example for inexperienced players to follow.
It's already been reported that the Canucks had turned down a 2nd Round Pick last year, what's it going to take for them to move the pending UFA? Every report states that Schenn loves Vancouver and the organization. The same love goes to Schenn from both the coaching staff and the management group, though wouldn't it be the best of both worlds if they traded him and signed him again in the summer?
