It began with Borje Salming making his return 'home' with a pair of emotional appearances at the ScotiaBank Centre over the weekend. Add to that 3 of the best Swedish born players to ever play in the NHL & a guest appearance from Mats Sundin, all we were missing was Meatballs & an IKEA dinner table to sit around.
It's not a lot of fun for the Sedins in their current front office position with the Vancouver Canucks, meaning it was a welcome sight to see them enjoying themselves while their team continued to stink during a 5 game Eastern road trip.
Just some kids out on the ice having fun, it was a welcome sight for sore eyes for a fan base that has been covering both of them lately. It was more of the same with Henrik Sedin setting up brother Daniel for a slot snipe, wearing their Swedish themed Legends Jerseys in yellow with the royal blue trim.
It makes you think. Exactly how early did they hang them up? Sure, they might not be able to play in the show NOW, but it's clear they are still in shape & as clever as ever when it comes to on ice communication. Daniel ended up in the shootout where he laid down a Pavel Datsyuk-esque backhand drag move. He's still got it.
What an honour for the Twins, breaking through from the European game as twins, on the same team, the same line for their entire career sans a few isolated split ups. Imagine a world where Brian Burke doesn't make that deal in 1999 & we end up with one Sedin, one ends up somewhere else.
Twilight zone activate.
