Former Hockey Night in Canada host and controversial figure Don Cherry has come out of the woodworks to give his two cents on Rick Tocchet leaving for the Philadelphia Flyers.

As the Vancouver Canucks' season comes to a sad end tonight against the Vegas Holden Knights, the speculation has already begun about Head Coach Rick Tocchet's future.
Will he be going? Will he be returning? These are the question everyone is asking especially now that the season has ended.

Don Cherry predicts Rick Tocchet may leave to join the Philadelphia Flyers

Ever since Rick Tocchet decided that he wasn't going to negotiate a deal during the season, and since John Tortorella was fired in Philly, speculation has been running rampant.
Now, Don Cherry has gotten in on the action and believes that that Tocchet would be an unbelievable fit as the falters new leader behind the bench.
»They love him in Philly," Cherry said." He played for them, and he was tough. I could see that happening. They love him in Philly. one thing about Philly though? They always try."

Given his history with the organization, the love for the city and the terrible outcome of the 2024-2025 Canucks season, Don Cherry does have a point.
It has been made a point by Canucks GM Patrik Allvin that their priority is to sign him to an extension the minute season concludes.
«I've said several times, my hope is to have Rick Tocchet here as the coach next year and beyond that,» Allvin said via Sportsnet. «That's something we will continue to talk about. That's my hope. I have a great working relationship with Rick, and he's well-respected. He's a really good coach.

He even might of gotten a head start as it was reported that a new contract was offered to the former Jack Addams award winner today (April 16th).
It will be interesting to see what happens in the coming weeks, but do not be surprised if you see a new man behind the bench in 2025-2026.
