The insider Rick Dhaliwal gave quite the update in that regard today since Noah Juulsen is also about to hit free-agency and the restricted free agent Ethan Bear has not yet received a qualifying offer.
A few weeks ago it seemed clear that Ethan Bear was going to be qualified for the $2.2M he's due. The fact that his injury will keep him sidelined for 6 months as come into play and it appears the Canucks are reticent to offer this much money.
Obviously, in a related manner, the Canucks made contact with Burroughs who had not heard about a contract extension for a while. They've also been in constant contact with Noah Juulsen and it now appears that the Canucks have started to look deeper into their options other then Ethan Bear.
If the Canucks chose not to qualify Bear, he'd be hitting free agency with complete autonomy. However, the Canucks could still chose to sign him, except they could be lowering their offer under the $2.2M AAV.
Knowing that Bear will be sideline until December, should the Canucks re-sign him? Or should they be looking into different alternatives?
