Recent Trade that isn't Aging Well
Rewinding back to the beginning of October, the Canucks announced a trade with the Blackhawks. Jason Dickinson had to pack his bags alongside a 2nd Round Pick in 2024 to acquire Riley Stillman.
Carrying a 2.65 AAV, the Canucks were most likely trying to free some cap space. Dickinson had not produced up to the expectations in the 2021-2022 season, but so far in the wind city he's been fire. He's up to 9 points after 16 games, after today's game (totaled 11 in 62 last season) and he currently stands 4th for points on the Blackhawks stat sheet.
The other way around, Stillman had shown some promise since his pro debut. Since his arrival with the Canucks, he's been in and out of the lineup and hasn't been up to the challenge whenever he was given bigger responsabilities.
Stillman does carry a lower AAV, maybe in the end it'll be what the Canucks need to sign Horvat, but for now, it still feels like a 2nd Rounder and Dickinson was a hefty price for the underperforming defender, don't you think?
