Nearly three decades later, reports suggest that the team and the National Capital Commission may soon confirm that they've secured land at LeBreton Flats.
As the lease agreement deadline approaches, sources indicate that a deal is likely imminent. Though this is just the initial step in a lengthy process, there is optimism that construction could begin sooner than anticipated. If everything proceeds as planned, the Senators could play in a new arena by the 2030 NHL season.
When it was built, the Canadian Tire Centre (CTC) initially showed great promise. Still, its location in a remote part of town quickly became an issue, making it difficult for fans to reach from across the city. He proposed a new arena, however, that would be centrally located downtown, just minutes from Parliament, making it far more accessible to a broader range of people.
