Junior hockey player among four charged in death of 41-year-old New Brunswick man
A junior hockey player was among four to be charged in the passing of a 41-year-old New Brunswick man.
Police in Fredericton, New Brunswick have charged four people with manslaughter in connection with the passing of André Bourgeois, a 41-year-old man from Grande-Digue.
Three of the four people charged are under the age of 18 and their identity is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act in Canada, while the other was 18-year-old Tyler Totten, a junior hockey player with the Fredericton Red Wings in the Maritime Junior Hockey League.
"Three more people have been charged with manslaughter in the death of a man following an assault in downtown Fredericton last month, say police.
Two males, aged 16 and 17, and Tyler Totten, 18, appeared before a judge Thursday, when they were each charged in the death of André Bourgeois, 41, of Grande-Digue, and released on conditions."
Police say that two men were assaulted in downtown Fredericton in the early hours of September 22nd in an area called The Tannery, which is a courtyard surrounded by several bars. Bourgeois passed away just five days after the assault, according to his obituary.
Totten and two of the accused youths appeared in a Fredericton court on Monday morning where they were formally charged with manslaughter before being released with conditions. Their next court date is unknown at this time and an investigation is ongoing, police say.
TSN's Rick Westhead says that the MJAHL and Fredericton Red Wings are aware of the charges and are cooperating with police.
"Maritime Junior Hockey League spokesman James Faulkner told me the league and the Red Wings are cooperating with Fredericton police regarding what Faulkner called a "non-hockey related incident."
Wings general manager Kyle McAllister declined to comment." Westhead said in a social media post.
The thoughts of everyone here at Canucks Daily are with the family and friends of André Bourgeois at this difficult time.
