NHL announces a 2024 calendar with the Coyotes relocated
The NHL is preparing for a future that might include the Arizona Coyotes franchise on the move as soon as next season.
According to Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli, the NHL is preparing two schedules for the 2024/25 season, with one being under the assumption that the team will relocate to Salt Lake City.
Utah Jazz owner Ryan Smith has not been shy about his interest in owning an NHL franchise and is ready to bring the Coyotes to Utah if given the chance.
We are interested.
Smith told The Athletic this week that we are ready and a partner.
The arena is done. We think we have a solution. And that's my message to the NHL.
The Coyotes could have a new arena on the way in the Phoenix area via the Arizona State Land Trust auction in late June. Still, Seravalli says the possibility is genuine of the Coyotes not being in Arizona next season.
While it's a legitimate option, Seravalli and other insiders have noted that even if the Coyotes move, the NHL will be looking to return to Phoenix soon.
