In Monday's game against the defending Stanley Cup champions, the Vegas Golden Knights, captain Quinn Hughes needed one assist to join an elite group of players who have recorded 200 or more assists in a three-season span. The other two players were Hall of Famers Bobby Orr and Paul Coffey.
Just hours after OptaSTATS made that post, Hughes would pick up an assist on Conor Garland's 17th goal of the season. Hughes added a goal less than three minutes later to tie the game up at 2-2.
The Canucks would go on to win the game, thanks to Hughes' play and strong performances from J.T. Miller, who tallied three assists and Conor Garland, who had a pair of goals.
Hughes, 24, now has 88 points (17 goals, 71 assists) in 78 games this season, along with 38 penalty minutes and is a plus-39. While 100 points are likely out of the question for Hughes this season, given he needs 12 and only four games are remaining, hitting the 95-point mark is undoubtedly attainable. To reach that mark, he'll need to average 1.75 points per game over the Canucks' final four contests of the regular season.
The Stanley Cup Playoffs are set to begin in under two weeks, and there's no doubt that Quinn Hughes will play a significant role in helping Vancouver make a deep run. Do you think Hughes will lead the team in points during the playoffs? Let us know what you think in the poll below.
