Serbian CrossFitter Luzar Dukic drowns midway through swimming competition
A Serbian CrossFitter has sadly passed away during a recent swimming competition.
The CrossFit community is in mourning on Friday after news circulated yesterday that a 28-year-old Serbian passed away after drowning while participating in a swimming competition on Thursday morning.
On Thursday morning, Serbian swimmer Lazar Dukic was participating in an 800-metre swimming event at The CrossFit Games in Fort Worth, Texas and as he was approaching the finish line, he went under the water and didn't surface.
Immediately, first responders searched for Dukic and tragically, two hours later, a body was pulled from Fort Worth's Marine Creek Lake. The body was then identified as Lazar Dukic.
The CrossFit Games released a post on their social media accounts, announcing the passing of Lazar Dukic and saying that they were cancelling the remainder of Thursday's events.
Dukic has been competing in The CrossFit Games for a number of years and was one of the best from Serbia, ranked third in his nation and was also 88th in the men's world rankings.
The thoughts of everyone here at Canucks Daily are with Lazar Dukic's family and friends at this difficult time.
