Trevor Zegras has been one of the hottest NHL personalities of the last few seasons. The player selected just a pick before Podkolzin has been just as electric on the ice.

IN NEED OF A NEW DEAL

Zegras played the last year of his three-year entry-level contract with the Anaheim Ducks and put on an even better show than the one he presented in his first entire season. With a back-to-back 61 and 65 points season, the young star is due for a massive raise.

However, the latest reports suggest an essential discord between both parties, costing the Ducks big time.

DUCKS LOW-BALLING THEIR TOP PLAYER?

According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, the Ducks and the Zegras have agreed to a shorter-term bridge deal rather than a big deal. Remember that Jack Hughes, Cole Caufield and Mat Boldy are all players from the 2019 Draft Class who have already inked long-term deals with cap hits between $7M and $8M.

It's now being suggested that the Ducks have placed an offer ranging between $3M - and $4M annually, upsetting the star.

That's an embarrassing way for the Ducks to deal with their top player. Incredibly, they have inked the veteran and Stanley Cup Winner Alex Killorn to a $6.5M cap hit.

The Canucks were in a similar situation with their star Elias Pettersson two years ago. They finally agreed to a bridge deal carrying a $7.85M cap hit. In 2023, isn't that the range at which Zegras should sign? Big Head Hockey released a fascinating post via Twitter that pointed out the comparison:

If things continue to degrade between Zegras and the Ducks, it's a case on which Allvin should inquire.
