The Boston Bruins are continuing to prepare their roster for the start of the 2023-24 season, which will be their Centennial in the National Hockey League and on Sunday, released a former Vancouver Canucks forward from his PTO.

Boston Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery told reporters on Sunday that the team has decided to release veteran forward Alex Chiasson from his professional tryout contract. Montgomery explained his decision by saying the following:

"I don't know if he came up short. I think it's more a lot of guys have had really good camps, and it's just coming down to numbers. We felt that this would give him the best opportunity to maybe catch on somewhere else."

Chiasson, 33, appeared in two of Boston's three preseason games to date, but failed to record any points and only had two shots on goal. He'll now become an unrestricted free agent once again, but it's unclear what his playing future may hold. Chiasson could do what he did last season, start off in the American Hockey League and try earn an NHL deal later in the year.

Last season, Chiasson appeared in 20 games for the Detroit Red Wings where he put up nine points (six goals, three assists), six penalty minutes and was a minus-eight.
