No one really knew the extent of his options, other than that he had his sights set on a reunion with his former club, the Boston Bruins, who inked him to a one-year contract for the 2023-24 season worth $1.5 million.
This week, Lucic was a guest on the 'Dropping the Gloves' podcast and opened up about unrestricted free agency.
During the interview, Lucic said that upwards of 15 teams had contacted him to express interest in signing him for next season and that one of those teams was the Chicago Blackhawks.
Lucic believes the reason he got a contract from the Boston Bruins, as well as the amount of offers he received, was because of him going to the World Championship to play for Canada, proving to General Managers around the National Hockey League that he has a lot left in the tank.
The Vancouver native is coming off the lowest point total of his career thus far, but with a tough season in Calgary behind him, he's got plenty to look forward to on his return to the Boston Bruins.
Lucic will make his return to the Bruins on Wednesday, October 11th against the Chicago Blackhawks.
