The Boston Bruins find themselves outside of the playoff picture in the Eastern Conference and could look to sell some of their pending UFAs, including Trent Frederic, before the deadline.
Patrik Allvin is going to be quite busy over the next nine days as he figures out how he wants to approach the trade deadline, with the potential for someone like
Brock Boeser to be on the move before 12 pm PT on Friday, March 7th.
Boston Bruins forward Trent Frederic linked to Vancouver Canucks
It's been a difficult season for the Boston Bruins, which included
the firing of Jim Montgomery before American Thanksgiving and as of Tuesday afternoon, they sit one point back of Ottawa for the final wild card spot in the Eastern Conference.
The Bruins believe they can make the playoffs this season, which would be their ninth consecutive year, but they face an uphill battle and with the trade deadline just over a week away, GM Don Sweeney has some difficult decisions to make.
Forward Trent Frederic is set to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1st and there's a very good chance he's moved before next Friday as his camp and the Bruins haven't been able to come close on a contract extension.
In a post on Daily Faceoff on Tuesday afternoon, NHL insider Frank Seravalli took a look at which teams could be potential fits for Trent Frederic before the deadline and he mentions the Vancouver Canucks, who are looking for depth down the middle.
Along with the Canucks, Frank Seravalli mentions the Edmonton Oilers, Minnesota Wild, New Jersey Devils, Toronto Maple Leafs and Washington Capitals as possible landing spots for the 27-year-old.
"Vancouver Canucks: On a team where center depth has eroded this season, Frederic could make sense for a playoff push in Vancouver." Seravalli said.
Frederic, a native of St. Louis, Missouri, is exactly the type of player contending teams look for at the trade deadline and want on their roster for a deep run in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
He brings size, grit and a physical presence to a team's bottom-six forward group and would likely fill the third line center role in Vancouver, along with seeing time on the top penalty killing unit.
Frederic's production has dropped off after a career-year in 2023-24 where he had 18 goals and 40 points in 82 games, but if he's able to come in and play a physical role and bring some depth scoring, that would a big help for the Canucks down the stretch.
The National Hockey League's trade deadline for the 2024-25 season is set for 12 pm PT on Friday, March 7th and Canucks Daily will have full coverage, including news and deals from Patrik Allvin and the Vancouver Canucks.
